Avatar: The Legend of Xin
Prologue

This is my first fanfic about Avatar which doesn't include any characters from previous or future series. It's a little writing I do for fun, it includes characters of mine and of friends of mine and I just decided to put together an AU story.

Don't flame if you don't like OC stories, as I said, it's just a bit of fun.

Disclaimer: Avatar the legend of Aang does not belong to me it belongs to Bryke. The abilities of the characters and general world they live in and `save the world` plot also belongs to Bryke.
All Character design and characters themselves and the way this story goes belongs to me. Any similarities with other fanfics or stories is completely coincidental and all I can say is "Great minds think alike, yeah?" and maybe laugh.

Humans were just coming into the new age of being independent from the Spirits. Mankind had grown to learn fast and respect them. They knew it was time for mankind to take care of themselves.

The rule being, when the humans were allowed free reign over their beautiful land, a gift, mankind was to continue respecting each other and the world and the Spirits.

All was well, the mighty beasts of the land and the plants and the humans lived in harmony with unspoken rules which kept everything in order.

Although, mankind was on their way to lose it all. They made a leader among their people who would help show them wisdom from the Spirits. When mankind grew in great numbers, said leader asked the Spirits if it would be all right for his four brothers to help him show humans the way in life and they allowed it.

The four younger brothers crossed the land and the sea in search for new homes and more space to expand. The leader also had a sister, the youngest of the six, and she was granted the same ability as him, to talk to the Spirits.

Each brother was granted the ability to wield an element to help build their new societies and they learned them from the mighty beasts and Spirits themselves.

Water bending they learned from the Moon which took the form of a fish, Earth bending from the giant Badger Moles, Fire from the great Dragons and Air from the majestic Sky Bison. The beasts were the only things able to hold the great bending abilities of the Spirits.

The second eldest, a kind and gentle leader, was granted Water.
The third eldest, loyal, strong willed at heart and physically, was granted the ability to bend Earth.
The second youngest, driven and passionate, was granted Fire.
The youngest, light hearted and care free, was granted the ability to bend Air.
The eldest was granted the ability to take away the powers of his brothers if anything was to happen.

And true enough, over time, mankind grew greedy and forgot that what they had was only a privilege. The Spirits weren't pleased with how mankind were taking over the land but could not do anything to stop them because the people had forgotten about them, so they had no power and were weak.

The leader had passed away and the four brothers had lost sight, suddenly fighting for leadership.

The second youngest saw how the humans and the world had spiralled out of control, and thought that the Spirits had abandoned them, so he thought it best to crack mankind into order with fear and fire.

The second eldest had come to think that his brothers decision wouldn't benefit any one, and thought it best that he should take humanity back with the promise of peace and plenty of resources.

The youngest of the brothers wanted to take no part in the serious matter, and thought that it wasn't either of their choices, but the two wouldn't listen so he took his people and lived far away from all the chaos and lived with nature. The second youngest was torn between his brothers decisions and it was tearing their family apart.

The sister heard the Spirits and their plans to wipe out humanity, and tried to plead with her brothers to stop their quarrels and rule together in peace but they wouldn't listen. So in a last attempt, she fled to the top of the world where she could reach the Spirits.

She stood in the North Pole and entered the Spirit world and begged for forgiveness for mankind and her brothers.

Weak without the acknowledgement of mankind, an evil Spirit grew strong as it fed off of the hate in the world and didn't want the hate to stop, so it decided to punish the brothers and killed their sister, throwing the world into further chaos as each brother blamed the other for not protecting their family.

The Spirits then saw this chaos getting worse and managed to lock away the evil spirit. They then continued to try and destroy mankind by using the Spirits of the element to wipe them out.

Having come to love and live with mankind, and seeing that it can be pure and good via the sister, the elements fled from the spirit world with the sisters spirit and body.

They hid among the mighty beasts of the earth, not wanting their hands stained with the fate mankind was sure to have met. With the people continuously hating and waging war and forgetting about the Spirits, the evil one managed to escape, but only a little bit of it managed to flee to the human world.

There, it  lived off of the brothers hatred and tricked them into fighting forever.

For if they did, the evil spirit promised that when their sister was reincarnated, all they had to do was present her at the most Spiritual place on the planet to the Spirit world and they would be spared, mankind would be wiped out, and they would get to start again and rule it right.

Of course, this was not true, so for years, the brothers searching turned into hunting, and the real reason behind finding their sisters reincarnation was lost.

Now, the brothers reincarnations believed they had to sacrifice their sister to the Spirits and they would be spared.

This is the Legend of Xin, the first Avatar.
